Travis Spencer Quinn
Travis, or Quinn as he tends to introduce himself out of habit of a professional environment and speaking more to teachers then fellow students, is a naturally quiet sort. He doesn't say much, but he smiles a lot, and when he does speak it's gently, his voice soft but pleasant. There is always a sort of tired sadness about him, but he's quick to offer to help others and seems happiest when those around him are happy, a certain empathy tending to pick up on whats going on in others even if he's not always the best at offering ways to fix it. Certainly he is always trying to help, and while he tends to drift to solitude when left alone, he enjoys more the quiet company of simple being able to be in the background where others are and silently be included in their company, even if in the end he is doing only his own thing while they do theirs.
Humble and mild mannered, he's polite and doesn't tend to draw much attention to himself either. If anything, Quinn is quiet adverse to having too much focus on himself, and has a bit of a self-deprecating streak about himself, tending to always put down his achievements and instead try to bring others up. Gentle and meek, he hates conflict and tends to avoid trouble when he can and is easily scared, seemingly always nervous about his actions or the consequences of dangerous ventures. Frequently he seems nervous and worried, the smallest things causing him to fret, and when things go wrong he's quick to point it out as his own fault and tear himself down even as he works tirelessly trying to fix it.
Quinn's aversion to conflict leads also, however, to a certain submissiveness. If he is keen to when others are feeling or happy or down, he's also very aware of when they are angry or bitter, and his aversion to combat leads to him caving rather then argue, deny someone else, or end up in a fight. In the end, he would rather give others what they want then cause a fuss or risk getting hurt. Even when it's his own issues or there are others he could go to, he almost never will ask for help, a strange conundrum when a simple soul also is averse to lying, tending to result in an awkward shuffling and avoidance when things are wrong to avoid both lies and the truth. He hates feeling like he is a bother.
But Quinn is caring and sweet as well. He may fret about things, but he's the first to try to give others confidence, and if he works tirelessly to please, its only because he would do anything for those who deserve it or are his friends. He believes almost everyone has a good part inside them, and he loves simple pleasing things. Pokemon fascinate him as well, and he loves children and young pokemon especially. He has a bad habit of taking in those who need help, no matter his current resources, and his fascination with pokemon leads him to know quite a bit more about them then often even he suspects, something that has led him to his current profession of raising, caring for them, and helping others when things go wrong. Some of his skills apply to people as well, but he tends to be nervous about trying it, even if a broken bone is the same no matter human or pokemon.
Quinn can seem distant and melancholy at times though. He often feels like he is missing a sense of family, and is lonely knowing that he had someone before, and now he has no one, both fretting over leaving them and trying to remember who he lost as well as selfishly wishing he had someone still.

who were you then?
Travis would never know what happened to his dad. He knew he had loved him, but while he was still a child he would vanish. Dead, lost, met with misfortune, or simply unable to return, he would never know, could never know, but in the end it didn't matter. He had his mother, and she had him. And it was lonely, but they got by. He was okay with it, okay with nothing else but trying to make her happy. As far as he could remember that was always his biggest goal in life. As soon as he could he started helping with chores, and he learned to cook early so she wouldn't have to, so he could provide for her sometimes instead of her always giving to him.
She taught him to read, and gave him a love of books. Travis was a good student and studied hard just to be able to make her happy when he brought back good report cards, and to make the teachers proud of him, but he would love little more then he did reading. He could get lost in fantastical worlds written inside pages for hours upon hours. taking often to sitting outside under trees so he might be outside in nature and immerse himself in the quiet rustle of leaves and his own imagination.
Of course though, he loved pokemon too. Travis never really raised pokemon of his own, but his mother owned a handful of flying types, sweet little round birds, and there were always stray cats about. They were real friendly to him, and he often ended up attracting them, having somewhat of a natural way with the gentle domestic creatures, and when he wasn't reading he'd often bird watch or take notes on the pokemon that were running about in the wilderness. Even when he was younger Travis didn't talk much, and didn't interact with other kids. He didn't have a lot of pokemon, felt a little... distant. So his books, the pokemon, and his mother filled his time instead, filled that gap.
It was fine with Travis really. If he was harassed some at school, then it was nothing he couldn't escape from once he got home, and a submissive nature didn't tend to provoke too many fights, taking the abuse but then slipping away. He got along well with the teachers instead, and they helped refine him. They helped him explore his fascination for pokemon, and with his complete dedication to studying and learning, they helped push him towards his life goal.
To be a professor or a researcher. To study pokemon, care for them, learn about them, and through learning about them, better form bonds with them and help others understand them. It was hard work, but Travis was a hard working student, and put in sleepless nights studying to pass classes. He was dedicated, and sure he could have made it. Then, completely out of character for the meticulous and quiet student, he simply didn't show up to class one day, and wasn't found anywhere else. Last anyone knew, he had been studying at the edge of the forest and simply.. never returned.

what remains?
Quinn was born deaf, but he's quite good at reading lips and doesn't tend to make a big deal out of it. He's always been conflicted about his first name, having shared it with many other less then savory sorts, but not quite wanting to hate it just for that, and he tends to just avoid it altogether now out of discomfort. He loves caring for pokemon more then anything else, but is still terrified of being stuck out in the wilderness alone, and won't go anywhere deep in the wilds unless someone is with him, though he is more then happy to help with any good cause and muster his courage to help others.
Quinn is also very good at sign language, though he doesn't use it often, and is pretty good at reading body language, though some of his empathetic traits extend farther then that, whether its just a knack for reading expression, an openness that lets him quickly catch on to certain mannerisms, or something a little harder to explain. He does tend to miss subtleties when it comes to tone of voice though, and will often misinterpret words if he's not certain how they are being said. He himself always talks softly, and doesn't tend to change his tone of voice much, and though one can still tell when he's happy or excited, or when he's sad or scared, smaller things like questions tend to come out a little flat. Mumbling drives him mad but he's too nervous to ask people to enunciate most times. He also hates when people turn away while talking to him and tends to feel very nervous when he can't tell what someone is saying or when they slur things, and he doesn't understand most slang at all.
